Royal Weddings and Honiton Lace

Royal Weddings and Honiton Lace

This month the world is celebrating a royal wedding, and women around the world wonder, “What will her dress look like?”

Although others had been married in white, white wedding dresses, with lace, became popular with Queen Victoria. Why did she choose lace? One reason: she wanted to promote the lace industry of Honiton. My book, Mist of Midnight, explores that lace industry, and India, and a mysterious hero and a heroine who is a stranger in her own land.

To celebrate the wedding, I’m giving away two copies of Mist of Midnight. To enter? Simply leave a comment on the companion article to this one, Lace Makers, and let me know, below, if you’re planning to watch the royal wedding, what tea and treats you’ll be sampling while you do so! Already own a copy? No problem! If you’re the winner, I’m happy to gift a book to anyone you’d like!

Winner must be a newsletter subscriber and will be drawn by Random.org from names of people who comment on both blog posts!

My sweet nephew who is also a ginger is getting married on May 19, 2018 so we will be having our own Royal Wedding. Disappointed to miss Prince Harry’s as I have watched them all .

I am planning on watching the royal but will be a bit untrue to my British hetitage. I teach ESL classes to Arab refugees and they are beyond generous in sharing their wonderful food. Can’t give you a name of as all are called pastries. They aren’t sweet like American pastries except for small amounts of honey and friut.

Very interesting reading about lace made in India and England. And how Queen Victoria promoted lace by wearing it to her wedding. I read the story of how purple became a color and discovered that she was also responsible for promoting the color mauve. Women began wearing that color once they saw Victoria with it on.
